YouTube launches skippable ads

Let's face is - users don't like ads on their online streaming video. They would watch it on television if they wanted to see commercials. As a result, YouTube is launching skippable ads that allow users to completely skip the ad after a few seconds.

While it seems this would anger advertisers, it might help them. With Google's analytical database, they can see what users are skipping, how often they are skipping, and deliver more relevant messages that the user will probably watch, making it even more valuable.

Advertisers can then see clearly what is working for whom, and what needs to be changed. Hulu recently launched a similar strategy, where users can vote on ads that are relevant to them or not.

This is going to force online advertisers to be accurate and relevant in selecting their targets and what media they choose to advertise on. Keep it relevant and you don't have to worry about it.
